The requirements for the online store were unique (no pun intended!):
- The store owner needed to update the products catalogue often and quickly - by themselves.
- The online store was not supported by a "brick and mortar" shop.
- Orders needed to be placed and paid for online in real time.
- Credit cards, bank transfers and personal cheque payment options were required.
- National and international shipping options were required.
- Multi currency coverage was required.
- Inventory needed to be managed.
- Budget was limited.
- Project timing was limited as the store needed to be up and running for the summer season.
- Order management was required.
- Specials needed to be an option.
- Logo / Branding design for both the website and support stationery required.
Due to timing and budget constraints, a specific build solution was out of the question. 4success therefore recommended using the open-source e-commerce solution "OSCommerce". Using OSCommerce with its existing feature set as a basis allowed development time to be reduced and a full online e-commerce solution was produced within two months. Using an open source solution meant resourcing could be focused on producing both a suitable design and customising the feature set and functionality for the site.
The DPS payment express was chosen as the solution for handling credit card payments in real time. Bank transfers and cheques are accepted, though these are not in real time (to ensure payments are cleared before goods are shipped to avoid fraud).
Considerable customisation was carried out on the core Oscommerce code to make suitable for UniqueKidz.
- Major redesign and modification of core layout to suit the UniqueKidz branding.
- Featured products added to address issues with the New Products notification module.
- Shipping modules produced to allow free freight in given circumstances and cover international shipping.
- Orders made editable.
- Product reports created to show stock levels.

In the first week of October, UniqueKidz web site went live - allowing for a full online store to be built, tested and launched within two month, supported by a logo, branding and stationery set to conduct business from day one.
